About the Role

Under the general guidance of the Lead Clinical Aide, the Clinical Aide performs patient care interventions to manage and structure the therapeutic milieu. This role also assists with the non-nursing portion of patient admissions to create a positive patient experience, obtains patient information, and provides guidance on clinic procedures. Aides may perform minor diagnostic procedures and sterilize equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Measures patient vital signs including weight, height, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature.
  • Manages the non-nursing portion of patient admission, including handling belongings and conducting searches.
  • Obtains admission urine tests and performs other screening/testing per unit policy.
  • Orients patients to the unit and rooms them.
  • Creates a positive patient experience by welcoming and assisting patients.
  • Promotes patient safety by maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.
  • Mediates between patients and healthcare providers.
  • Guides patients through the program’s various facilities and procedures.
  • Sterilizes medical equipment and sanitizes designated areas.
  • Performs housekeeping duties such as preparing rooms for admission and assisting with patient laundry.
  • Serves as a nurse’s aide by assisting nursing staff as needed, including providing drinks and/or food for patients.

Requirements

  • A minimum of one year working in a chemical dependency facility is strongly preferred.
  • A compassionate understanding of chemical dependence as a disease; preference given to persons in recovery from chemical dependency.
  • Must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License and have an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to operate a company vehicle without restriction.
  • Experience with clinical procedures such as specimen collection and diagnostic testing.
  • Strong communication skills with medical and clinical practitioners.
  • Basic knowledge of healthcare practices, standards, and medical terminology.
  • Experience using an electronic health record and ability to accurately record in a progress note.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills including email, Microsoft Word, and data entry.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to assist and reassure patients.
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks as directed by healthcare professionals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, twist, write, carry, and climb stairs.
  • Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, implements, or office equipment.
  • Must be able to talk and hear.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms.
  • Must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to assist an adult weighing 100-200 pounds.
  • Requires close, distance, and color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to move chairs, beds, and medical equipment.
  • May be required to move patients in bed (with or without assistance) and change bed linens.
  • Must be able to help clients from floor to chair or bed.
  • Must be able to assist with bathing.
  • Demonstrates integrity and trust.
  • Builds positive relationships through communication and collaborative problem solving.
  • Believes in the dignity and humanity of all people to reach their full potential.
