About the Role

Corpay is seeking an Interim Legal Counsel on a fixed-term basis to provide strategic legal support for commercial, regulatory, and corporate matters. This role partners with business leaders to manage legal risk and enable business growth within a fast-paced, global fintech environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the drafting, review, negotiation, and execution of complex commercial agreements with minimal oversight while balancing business objectives and legal risk.
  • Conduct legal and regulatory research, evaluate emerging legislation, and provide practical legal advice to support strategic business decisions.
  • Identify, assess, and communicate legal and regulatory risks, providing recommendations that align with Corpay's risk appetite and business objectives.
  • Support litigation preparedness, internal investigations, dispute resolution activities, and responses to legal inquiries.
  • Review, develop, and maintain legal policies, contract templates, governance documentation, and standard legal processes to improve consistency and compliance.
  • Prepare concise legal risk assessments and executive summaries outlining potential impacts, mitigation strategies, and recommended actions.
  • Partner with Compliance, Risk, Finance, Product, HR, and business leaders to ensure legal considerations are integrated into operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior attorneys, legal professionals, and business stakeholders on legal processes, contract standards, and governance requirements.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives that enhance the efficiency, scalability, and effectiveness of the Legal function.
  • Perform additional legal projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD), LLB, or equivalent law degree.
  • Licensed to practice law in the applicable jurisdiction.
  • Significant experience in commercial, corporate, financial services, fintech, or in-house legal practice.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating and drafting complex commercial agreements.
  • Strong understanding of corporate governance, regulatory compliance, commercial law, and risk management.
  • Experience supporting litigation, investigations, or dispute resolution matters.
  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to simplify complex legal issues for business audiences.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple matters while delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity, sound judgment, and attention to detail.
  • Previous in-house legal experience within a financial services, payments, fintech, or publicly traded organization.
  • Experience supporting global business operations across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Familiarity with contract lifecycle management (CLM) platforms and legal technology tools.
  • Experience advising executive leadership on strategic legal and regulatory matters.
