About the Role
The Associate will assist Principal Officers and Presiding Officers in disciplinary proceedings that are broadly comparable to matters conducted by the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal in its occupational jurisdiction. This role will suit a paralegal or law graduate with several years’ experience supporting regulatory or other legal disputes. The successful candidate should have an interest in criminal, consumer or regulatory law and practice, and the ability to assist with statutory analysis, factual analysis, evidence review and the consideration of submissions.
Responsibilities
- Assist in drafting factual backgrounds, reasons for decision and other decision documents based on analysis of evidence and applicable statutory frameworks.
- Undertake legal research and other paralegal or administrative duties required by the Registry.
- Proofread complex legal documents, including Notices to Show Cause and disciplinary decisions.
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, including investigators, inspectors, mediators and legal officers, and with external stakeholders, including lawyers, tradespeople and consumers.
- Update public registers, issue documents to licence holders and assist business operations through administrative tasks.
- Assist with procedural steps in disciplinary proceedings, including the preparation and management of material for Delegates and Authorised Officers who conduct witness examinations, oral submissions and evidence-gathering processes.
- Undertake project work as required.
Requirements
- Possess legal qualifications or legal training and have substantial experience supporting regulatory decision-making or legal dispute processes.
- Strong analytical and written communication skills.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to express complex issues clearly, concisely and logically.
- Well-developed problem-solving skills and sound judgement.
- High level of working knowledge of Microsoft 365 products.
- Ability to support and deliver continuous improvement processes and projects.
