About the Role

EDC helps Canadian businesses succeed abroad by providing them with the financial tools and expertise needed to explore new markets and reduce risks, with the goal of building a better Canada and a better world through trade.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a strategic partner with clients, collaborating with their senior executives to foster continuous value creation, partnership, and long-term growth.
  • Establish new business relationships and contribute to business growth by developing a network of senior contacts and representing EDC to various stakeholders, including industry groups.
  • Leverage knowledge of transaction structuring, risk analysis, and understanding of financial markets, challenges, strategies, and client financial structures to provide advice and identify growth opportunities.
  • Mobilize cross-functional teams to serve current and potential clients, take ownership of sector strategy deployment, and contribute to the development of innovative solutions.
  • Develop, plan, and implement a detailed sector strategy to support trade diversification and economic transformation within a portfolio of current and potential clients.
  • Deepen knowledge of evolving sectors and markets, proactively identifying shifts in the business ecosystem, risks, trends, and emerging opportunities.
  • Influence EDC's perspectives and interests, providing crucial feedback and advice to inform decision-making, strategic planning, and risk management in complex and ambiguous situations.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in business administration, finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of business development experience, including client relationship management in international financing transactions, gained through corporate, commercial, or investment banking roles.
  • In-depth knowledge of best practices in strategic account management.
  • Familiarity with capital mobilization instruments used by potential and current clients, and market forces influencing their use.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand client strategy, deep understanding of potential solutions, and ability to influence the final solution by working with various functional teams.
  • Experience in financial markets, with the credibility and professional stature to collaborate with large client corporations with complex needs.
  • Well-established professional network in the business and financial world.

Skills

  • Bilingualism in both official languages
  • Knowledge of international business practices and international trade
  • MBA, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, or similar
  • Recent and relevant experience in one or more of the following priority sectors: energy and energy transition, critical minerals, trade-enabling infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, or digital industries
