About the Role

The Financial Times is seeking a proven story-getter to lead reporting on credit markets, including private credit, leveraged finance, distressed debt, and restructuring in London. This role involves cultivating contacts across various financial institutions to deliver exclusive, market-moving stories and owning the beat on the rise of direct lenders and alternative credit providers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead reporting on credit markets, including private credit, leveraged finance, distressed debt, and restructuring.
  • Cultivate a wide variety of contacts across banks, private credit funds, law firms, and advisers.
  • Deliver exclusive stories that move markets and set the agenda.
  • Report on the rise of direct lenders and alternative credit providers, loan strains, defaults, workouts, and restructurings.
  • Drive coverage of leveraged buyouts, high-yield, and syndicated loan markets.
  • Collaborate with global corporate finance, dealmaking, and private capital reporters.
  • Contribute regularly to the Due Diligence newsletter and other initiatives like conferences.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to get stories.
  • Ability to cultivate a wide variety of contacts across banks, private credit funds, law firms, and advisers.
  • A nose for where credit risk is building and the tenacity to report it out.
  • Ability to expand remit and influence over time.
  • Must refrain from using AI in test submissions.
