About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Motor Fleet Underwriter to join our Mid Market Underwriting team. In this role, you will manage and grow a portfolio of Mid Market Motor Fleet business, ensuring sustainable and profitable growth through strong underwriting discipline and broker relationships. You will assess risks, negotiate terms and pricing, and provide tailored insurance solutions. While Motor Fleet is your primary focus, you will also broaden your underwriting knowledge and contribute to wider initiatives across the Mid Market portfolio. You will collaborate with brokers and internal colleagues to deliver excellent service, maintain underwriting standards, and drive profitable outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and manage a portfolio of Mid Market Motor Fleet business in accordance with underwriting appetite and authority levels.
  • Assess new business, renewals, and mid-term adjustments, making sound underwriting decisions based on risk analysis and market conditions.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers to support retention and profitable growth.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions to achieve sustainable portfolio performance.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver exceptional customer and broker outcomes.
  • Monitor and manage portfolio performance, taking action where required to deliver underwriting profitability.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of market trends, emerging risks, and competitor activity.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, governance standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical underwriting support and guidance where required.

Requirements

  • Proven experience underwriting Motor Fleet business.
  • Strong technical underwriting knowledge and risk assessment capability.
  • Experience managing broker relationships and negotiating profitable outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and relationship-building abilities.
  • A customer-focused approach and commitment to delivering excellent service.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to team objectives.
