About the Role
Oversee consolidation of shipments for accuracy, providing input on freight costs, expediting urgency, carrier selection, and cost versus service issues. Act as a liaison between transportation and other departments and distribution centers. Oversee freight payment to all domestic carriers.
Responsibilities
- Supervise assigned shipping supervisors and employees, evaluating changing priorities and reassigning resources.
- Review daily consolidations for proper handling of expediting requests, optimum carrier/route selection, and maintenance of customer service information.
- Level load case pick requirements for DC operations.
- Serve as the point of contact for all operational needs, up-channeling issues as appropriate.
- Review routings to ensure proper carrier assignment and create manual shipments/delivery due lists when appropriate.
- Ensure ship sure requests are processed in a timely manner.
- Manage carrier issues with internal and external customers.
- Ensure adequate truckload capacity in trailer pools.
- Generate data and metrics for EOM/EOQ reporting.
- Expedite and trace shipments as necessary.
- Provide directions to carriers for expediting activities and determine actions for late shipments.
- Manage daily invoice payments for all domestic transportation vendors in the Blu Jay TMS System.
- Create reports and spreadsheets using Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Maintain good housekeeping conditions and observe safety regulations.
Requirements
- Ability to lift over 50 pounds.
- Eighty percent of the time will be spent on the production floor.
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing and 5S principles.
- Ability to make decisions, troubleshoot, problem solve, and multi-task.
- Good verbal/written communication skills.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Good team player.
- Must be available to work any shift, primarily four, 10-hour days or five 8-hour days.
