About the Role
As a Vehicle Make Ready Operative (VMRO) at Community Ambulance Service, you will play a crucial role in the day-to-day running of an ambulance station. Your responsibilities will include ensuring ambulances are fully stocked, cleaned, and ready for shift, maintaining vehicles, and managing station stockrooms to meet strict hygiene standards.
Responsibilities
- Support with Deployment: Work to the impact report schedule to ensure vehicles are ready on time, issue consumables and Chemex solutions, assist crews in prepping vehicles, advise on vehicle suitability for deployment, and liaise with dispatch for vehicle changes.
- Ensure all Ambulance Colleagues are supported, compliant, safe and ready to deploy in line with Falck Policies.
- Be conversant and apply all organisational policies and procedures.
- Support crews to complete their VDIs.
- Update and send Vehicle/Equipment reports.
- Ambulance end of shift: Coordinate vehicle parking, assist with and audit pre and post-shift checks, complete end-of-shift checklists, complete end-of-shift vehicle cleaning, and perform visual inspections of equipment.
- Refuel vehicles as instructed.
- Prepping vehicles: Reconfigure vehicles, replace cylinders, ensure vehicles are fully stocked with consumables, and manage excess consumables.
- Vehicle/Equipment maintenance: Repair minor vehicle and equipment defects, coordinate vehicle repairs and servicing with the Compliance Manager and Mechanics, identify and report new vehicle damage, put AdBlue in vehicles, jump start vehicles, complete pre-MOT checks, and defrost windscreens.
- Manage the broken equipment ‘Quarantine’ area and the ‘Available for Service’ equipment area.
- Identify defective vehicles and equipment, quarantine broken equipment, and advise the Compliance Manager for repairs.
- Vehicle cleaning and infection control: Complete external and deep vehicle cleaning, coordinate cleans with the Fleet team and Compliance Manager, wash mop heads daily, use provided equipment and consumables for cleaning, clean and disinfect internal vehicle areas and equipment, follow procedures for cleaning vehicles after transporting infectious patients, ensure cleaning equipment follows colour coding policy, and ensure cleaning chemicals are secure and in date.
- Stores/Supplies: Comply with COSHH regulations, conduct stock takes, receive and distribute stock inventory, advise the Compliance Manager of stock ordering requirements, manage first aid kits, supervise deliveries, and ensure Chemex supplies are in stock.
- Assist the manager of the base/station with administrative duties.
- General site H&S: Conduct health, safety, security, and cleanliness site walk-abouts, complete daily base cleaning walk-abouts, report site issues and support with minor repairs, arrange waste collection, maintain storage areas, replace toilet rolls and soaps daily, apply salt to walkways, clear walkways, ensure uniform and PPE are worn and laundered correctly, and undertake station cleaning checks.
- Undertake any other duties relevant to the post as may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements
- Right to work in the UK without the requirement of a sponsorship.
- UK Manual Driving licence held for 1 year or more, with no more than 6 points on your licence.
Skills
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify mistakes.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines.
- Computer literate.
- Technical knowledge of medical equipment and consumables is an advantage but not essential.
