About the Role

This role is for an early-career data professional interested in data engineering, cloud technologies, and analytics platforms. It offers the opportunity to develop technical data engineering skills while gaining experience in consulting, client delivery, and public sector transformation.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and test ETL/ELT pipelines, ingesting data from internal systems, APIs, databases, and other sources.
• Support data migration from legacy systems, including cleansing, validation, reconciliation, and transformation.
• Produce data mapping documents, translation tables, and migration rules, and support the automation of these processes.
• Work with relational databases, data warehouses, and reporting datasets, including writing and troubleshooting SQL.
• Prepare high-quality datasets for analytics, dashboards, and reporting, and support Microsoft Azure cloud platforms.
• Document technical solutions and decisions, perform data quality checks, and support UAT and migration testing.
• Work with non-technical staff to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
• Ensure compliance with data security, governance, and GDPR, and contribute to project documentation and client updates.

• Be willing to learn new systems, tools and technologies quickly.
• Contribute to internal development activity, such as case studies, blogs, tender responses, proposals and reusable project materials.
• A relevant degree in data, computer science, engineering, mathematics, analytics or a related subject, or demonstrate strong technical aptitude, curiosity and a willingness to learn.
• A minimum of 12 months relevant work experience.
• A growth mindset, regularly seeking feedback and continuous self-improvement.
• Initiative and ownership, self-managing your time, flagging your availability and clearly communicating updates with project teams, working across multiple projects in tandem.
• The ability to engage successfully with clients, client teams and key stakeholders and to work in a relational manner/style.
• An interest in improving public sector and local government services.
• The ability to deal with ambiguity and to navigate complex or unclear issues.
• The ability to think analytically, systematically, and logically, breaking down complex information to enable us and our clients to better understand them.
• Be comfortable receiving and delivering clear, constructive feedback (or prepared to embrace the uncomfortable!).
• An active contribution to the development of our company culture, role-modelling our values and engaging with internal initiatives and knowledge-sharing.

Skills

• Basic to intermediate SQL skills (queries, joins, aggregations)
• Working knowledge of Python or a similar programming language
• Understanding of databases, data structures, and ETL concepts
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g. Git, Visual Studio)
• Exposure to cloud data platforms (Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, AWS Glue)
• Awareness of data warehousing concepts (star and snowflake schemas)
• Experience with big data tools such as Spark
• Knowledge of BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau
• Understanding of agile or DevOps delivery environments
• Understanding of how a consulting business operates
