About the Role

Morgan Stanley Commodities delivers risk management solutions to clients in global markets for Oil, Gas, Power, Metals, Agriculture and more. This role offers the opportunity to design and build systems supporting this dynamic business, working on projects aligned with trading desk growth and contributing to the development of a next-generation trading and risk management platform.

Responsibilities

• Working closely with business users and engineering teams to understand business requirements and context, and define the best possible solutions.
• Designing and building systems that support the Commodities business.
• Contributing to projects and systems aligned with the growth of various commodity trading desks.
• Working on a multi-year program to build the next generation front-to-back trading and risk management platform.

Requirements

• 10+ years' experience of Scala or Java development on enterprise systems, ideally in financial services.
• Experience in effectively executing IT strategy, delivery and complex initiatives.
• Ability to present information in a clear and concise manner to technology and business leadership.
• Advanced understanding of functional area and competent understanding of competitive environment.
• An excellent understanding of software design principles and their application to complex interconnected enterprise platforms.
• A keen interest in using agentic AI tooling to maximise productivity.
• Proficiency in Agile development methodologies & understanding of DevOps Integration.
• Relational database skills (SQL).
• Ideally, experience developing on Linux.
• Excellent problem solving, communication and team-working skills.
• Experience of commodities markets is a strong advantage, although not essential.
• Experience in the following technologies is helpful, but not essential: Scala, Python, C++, Perl, Shell, C#.
