About the Role

We are seeking an experienced SME underwriter to manage portfolio performance and product development for Commercial Combined, Property Owners, and Office books. This role involves hands-on underwriting and product development, translating underwriting strategy into product definitions within Acturis. You will be responsible for achieving new business and quote/bind ratio targets, optimizing digital trading through data integration, and shaping risk appetite.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, define, and monitor underwriting appetite & rules for new and existing products.
  • Collaborate on coverage analysis for new or optimized products to ensure market relevance and alignment with underwriting strategy.
  • Ensure appropriate use of data for risk selection in an eTrade model aligned with target strategy.
  • Provide underwriting guidance for referral handling, including information collection and risk management approaches.
  • Identify and implement corrective actions based on portfolio analysis, addressing knowledge or behavioral gaps through communication, coaching, and training.
  • Manage portfolio profitability, growth, and retention while maintaining underwriting quality.
  • Underwrite and negotiate risks, including Mid Term Adjustments (MTAs), to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
  • Proactively manage the SME portfolio to achieve key performance indicators and target new business and retention.
  • Identify and capture opportunities to write additional lines of business.
  • Utilize technology platforms to efficiently quote and bind E-Trade risks.
  • Prepare, lead, and present Underwriting Reviews and manage action points.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners to identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with brokers to ensure understanding of SME products and objectives.
  • Develop and roll out UW training material to support SME product trading.
  • Provide support and collaboration across SME, including coaching and guidance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.
  • Ability to execute strategic direction across assigned portfolio in partnership with leadership.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to underwrite, market products, identify financial challenges, and analyze information for decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to negotiate successfully in difficult situations with brokers.
  • Ability to work with and lead people from diverse backgrounds, leveraging differences to achieve business goals.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring others.
  • Review competitor press releases and industry trade press for insights and applicability to team strategies.
  • Participate in and/or lead projects involving complex analysis and implementation of business and regulatory changes related to product enhancement, maintenance, or introduction.
  • Advanced experience of underwriting, product knowledge, financial analysis, or risk assessment experience.
