About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic, motivated, and experienced Physical Education Assistant to support and collaborate with the Physical Education Teacher in delivering a safe, stimulating, and developmentally appropriate physical education program for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. The Physical Education Assistant will help supervise students, prepare and maintain equipment, facilitate learning, promote positive behavior, and foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that encourages physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The Physical Education Assistant will independently plan, lead, and supervise after-school sports classes, providing students with opportunities to develop athletic abilities, build self-confidence, and promote teamwork.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Physical Education Teacher in implementing daily physical education classes and activities.
- Help set up, organize, and put away sports equipment and gear.
- Lead and coach after-school sports classes with groups of up to 15 students, from Pre-K 3 to Grade 4.
- Teach various sports within the after-school program, including soccer, basketball, tennis, volleyball, and sports-based games.
- Assist the Physical Education Teacher with basketball and volleyball teams during practices, games, and associated tournaments.
- Effectively manage the classroom and address student behavior issues in a positive and professional manner.
- Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.
- Communicate effectively with the after-school program director regarding student and program-related issues.
- Support school-wide events such as field days, fitness challenges, sports programs, and wellness initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Physical Education Teacher, Head of School, or Administration.
Requirements
- Associate's degree or higher in Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field (preferred).
- At least 2 years of experience working with students in a school, camp, sports club, or recreational setting (preferred).
- Experience as a coach, counselor, or facilitator in youth sports programs and after-school activities.
- Creative and innovative approach to sports education.
- Strong knowledge of various sports and athletic techniques.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students of all ages and abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to safety and inclusivity in sports classes.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
- Proficiency in English and French (oral and written) required.
