About the Role

As Director of Engineering, you will own the outcomes, structure, and health of a group of engineering teams, leading through a team of Engineering Managers. This is a people-and-process role focused on upskilling, unblocking, mentoring, and challenging Engineering Managers to ensure their squads remain healthy and perform at their best.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high engineering standards across the group, balancing rapid product delivery with scalable, maintainable systems.
• Manage the hiring, development, and performance of Engineering Managers to build a strong management bench.
• Design and evolve team structures, ownership boundaries, and staffing across the group.
• Directly manage staff and principal engineers, coaching them and aligning their work to group goals.
• Foster an inclusive, psychologically safe environment that empowers squads to take smart risks and learn from failures.

Requirements

• Experience managing engineering managers, including performance management, growth, development, and hiring.
• Ability to structure and empower a group for autonomous squad operation while maintaining alignment.
• Genuine passion for people leadership, coaching, and mentorship.
• Empathy-driven leadership, openness to feedback, and creation of a safe environment for risk-taking and learning.
• Positive, curious mindset towards AI and its application in enhancing team efficiency and impact.
• Strong collaboration skills with Product, Design, and other Engineering leaders.
• Technical depth to understand team work, navigate complex technical discussions, and support/coach Engineering Managers.
