About the Role
The incumbent ensures the cleanliness, disinfection, sanitation, and security of the campus interior and exterior spaces, adhering to Ontario health and safety standards, institutional protocols, and accessibility requirements.
Responsibilities
- Clean and disinfect classrooms, laboratories, offices, meeting rooms, common areas, elevators, stairs, corridors, and entrances.
- Restock restroom supplies including paper products, soap, and sanitary items.
- Operate motorized cleaning equipment such as auto-scrubbers, floor buffers, HEPA vacuums, and carpet extractors.
- Perform deep cleaning of classrooms, kitchens, and collaborative spaces.
- Clean interior windows accessible from the ground or via approved ladders.
- Manage waste, recycling, and compost collection in compliance with municipal regulations and sustainability policies.
- Apply WHMIS 2015 standards for chemical handling, labeling, and storage.
- Maintain and wear provided personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report incidents, hazards, or maintenance needs through internal systems.
- Set up rooms for courses, exams, conferences, and ceremonies.
- Support facilities team during major events, emergencies, or winter conditions.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies.
- Provide professional, discreet customer service to the university community.
Requirements
- High school diploma (DESO or equivalent).
- Minimum two years of experience in commercial, institutional, university, hospital, or school cleaning.
- Valid WHMIS 2015 certification or ability to complete within 30 days.
- Functional proficiency in spoken French.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 23 kg (50 lb) independently.
- Ability to move objects up to 35 kg (75 lb) with assistance or equipment.
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 7 hours per shift.
- Ability to perform repetitive movements, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
