About the Role

Child Support Professionals are compassionate, dedicated members of the Community Residence Program team, creating a safe and therapeutic environment for children and adolescents. This role involves providing specialized care, supervision, and therapeutic support to youth in residence, from skill-building to family engagement, to help residents achieve their goals, develop independence, and prepare for the future.

Responsibilities

  • Offer tailored supervision and care for each resident, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Demonstrate positive behaviors and embody the program’s core values to influence residents constructively.
  • Utilize strength-based techniques to foster resilience and asset-building.
  • Teach daily and independent living skills, track progress, and maintain a therapeutic milieu that supports emotional growth.
  • Create a homely atmosphere by performing and coaching residents in household duties including cleaning, laundry, shopping, meal planning, and preparation.
  • Participate in the development and review of service plans.
  • Apply trauma-sensitive practices in all interactions.
  • Escort residents to appointments and activities, providing supervision and transportation.
  • Promote and facilitate family involvement and reunification, using strength-based strategies.
  • Offer formal and informal counseling to support emotional and social development.
  • Assist with behavior management, crisis intervention, and support adherence to medication regimens.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Promptly report incidents or unusual occurrences.
  • Participate in special events, such as the annual Family Bonds retreat, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A valid New York State driver’s license is required.
  • Experience working with children with emotional or behavioral needs is preferred.
  • Associate’s degree preferred.
