About the Role
The Pest Control and Hoarding Specialist works proactively with tenants and staff to prepare units for pest management, educates on maintaining pest-free environments, and provides hands-on support for decluttering and life skills development.
Responsibilities
- Assist tenants in becoming self-sufficient in cleaning and maintaining pest-free units
- Perform hands-on tasks including laundry, sorting, storage, furniture shifting, and clearing household goods
- Educate tenants and staff on decluttering and organizing units for safety
- Identify and address issues of hoarding, bedbugs, and excessive clutter
- Develop educational materials regarding decluttering
- Collaborate with the team to identify units requiring intervention
- Assist with preparation for pest management and extermination
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation including RTA, PHIPA, and building codes
- Represent the agency positively to clients and the community
- Participate in supervision meetings to review performance and expectations
Requirements
- Structural Pesticide Exterminator License from the Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks (MECP)
- College or University Degree in Community Development, Social Service, Social Work, or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years of experience in hoarding and pest management
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with marginalized populations, homelessness, and mental health challenges
- Training in trauma-informed practice
- Successful police record check for Vulnerable Sector
- Legally entitled to work in the country
