About the Role

BCG is seeking a seasoned and skilled Managing Legal Counsel – Commercial Contracting to join its Global Legal Team. This role will focus on commercial matters, risk identification, and process improvement, with a primary focus on BCG’s operations in the Nordics. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional lawyer with expertise in commercial contracting, capable of independently addressing global legal issues and driving legal innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Be a fully integrated member of BCG’s Global Legal Team, with a primary focus on commercial matters, commercial risk identification, and internal process improvement, with a particular focus on BCG’s operations in the Nordics with Swedish language skills and the ability to negotiate and review contracts in Swedish being key.
  • Serve as champion of BCG contracting and risk management standards.
  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide array of complex commercial agreements, including global master services agreements, client and vendor agreements, licensing, SaaS, data, digital, AI-enabled services, subcontractor and partnership agreements, nondisclosure agreements, technology transactional matters and variable pricing arrangements.
  • Implement and help to develop and champion BCG contracting and other policies and processes and provide assistance to seek approvals on deviations of contract or other policies.
  • Provide general counselling and management of a full spectrum of business and legal issues, which, in addition to general commercial matters includes particular focus on licensing and intellectual property topics, digital and technology, data protection, competition law and trade regulations, conflicts of interests, and other legal matters.
  • Identify legal, commercial, operational and reputational risk early, articulate implications clearly to senior stakeholders, and recommend practical mitigation strategies that support business objectives while protecting BCG’s legal and ethical standards.
  • Team successfully across BCG and integrate fully into BCG's Global Legal Team to resolve or support resolution of complex legal issues.
  • Act as bridge and point of contact between functions and business for resolving legal issues.
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining Legal Team know-how, templates, technology solutions, and other key enablers.
  • Managing and directing consulting teams to ensure compliance with privacy laws including General Data Protections Regulations (GDPR) and data security.
  • Conducting investigations in the event of data breaches and reporting findings and recommendations for improvements.
  • Managing and directing consulting teams to navigate regulatory compliance issues.
  • Lead the responsible use of AI and legal technology to accelerate legal research, risk assessment, contract review, drafting, negotiation preparation and synthesis.
  • Structure inputs thoughtfully and critically assess outputs to ensure accuracy, legal defensibility, confidentiality, privilege, tone and commercial judgment.
  • Understand and manage risks associated with AI use, including confidentiality, data protection, privilege, bias, reliability, transparency, client commitments and appropriate human oversight.
  • Identify opportunities to scale legal support through automation, knowledge tools, contract playbooks, AI-enabled workflows and repeatable processes.
  • Coach colleagues and business stakeholders on effective, responsible and risk-aware use of legal technology and AI-enabled tools.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and guidance to Legal team colleagues and business stakeholders, including by reviewing work product, sharing expertise and helping to build capability across the Commercial Legal team.
  • Performing other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree (J.D.) in Law from an accredited law school and admitted to practice.
  • 10+ years of commercial contracting experience with international exposure.
  • 5+ years with a reputable law firm preferable; prior relevant in-house experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • English and Swedish fluency; other languages a plus.
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations.
  • Comfortable at assessing, presenting and mitigating legal risks.
  • Deploying and driving large scale legal change efforts, influencing stakeholders and ensuring on-going awareness and compliance with contracting policies including adoption of contracting standards, AI-enabled workflows, legal technology and knowledge-management tools.
  • Comfortable with technology and systems that are used in daily work, including contract lifecycle software, Slack, and other platforms.
  • Have the interpersonal skills necessary to build relationships throughout a loosely structured organization.
  • Be a pragmatic, high-energy professional, with personal and professional self-confidence.
  • Superior communication skills.
