About the Role

LCP is seeking a Consultant for their Pensions Actuarial Department to support growth in the DB pensions market. This role involves dividing time between pensions actuarial and pensions risk transfer (PRT) work, with flexibility based on individual strengths and interests. The position offers opportunities to work with diverse clients, from small schemes to large ones exceeding £1bn, and to develop consulting skills through client meetings and industry events.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating actuarial calculations with less experienced team members and reviewing these calculations and associated advice.
  • Taking ownership of workstreams with support from senior team members.
  • Undertaking a central role within the Pensions Risk Transfer team, in broking insurance transactions, liaising and negotiating with insurers, attending meetings, and managing projects.
  • Exploring opportunities within the department to join other specialist teams, such as those covering longevity, GMP equalisation, and Collective Defined Contribution schemes.
  • Attending client meetings to develop consulting skills and present findings.
  • Attending industry networking events.

Requirements

  • An actuary (preferably qualified) with at least 4 years’ experience working in the UK pensions actuarial consulting environment.
  • Strong UK pensions technical knowledge, including the ability to review core technical work such as actuarial valuation and member options calculations and pensions accounting.
  • Awareness of current issues and key hot topics in the UK pensions industry.
  • Ability to draft clear communications and presentations.
  • Ability to delegate tasks to less experienced team members and explain the wider context.
  • Good commercial awareness with the ability to consider agreed budgets when carrying out work.
  • Keenness to learn and get involved in Pensions Risk Transfer work (training provided).
