About the Role
Microsoft AI's Health team is dedicated to enhancing user health and wellbeing through AI. We aim to translate cutting-edge research into transformative products, and are seeking a Technical Program Manager to lead health AI research programs from inception to completion, ensuring measurable outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Partner with research and applied AI science to shape goals, priorities, and success metrics.
- Own end-to-end execution of complex health AI research programs, managing planning, milestones, dependencies, and risks.
- Drive cross-functional execution across research, engineering, clinical, product, and compliance.
- Translate requirements, manage trade-offs, and keep critical paths unblocked.
- Steer model development and launch readiness against safety, quality, privacy, and clinical criteria.
- Own the operational health of training and evaluation runs, including compute and resource planning.
- Establish lightweight operating mechanisms and maintain artefacts to align fast-moving research teams.
- Communicate progress, risks, and plans, distilling complex technical information for leadership.
- Advocate for the resourcing and focus the team needs to deliver.
Requirements
- Several years of experience in technical program management with a track record of delivering complex, cross-functional programs.
- Experience delivering AI/ML programs spanning research (pretraining, post-training, and/or evaluation), partnering directly with researchers and applied scientists.
- Technical fluency to reason about model training, evaluation methodology, data, and infrastructure trade-offs.
- Ability to engage credibly with researchers and engineers and stay current on emerging AI approaches.
- Capacity to bring clarity to complex, ambiguous, and changing research challenges at pace.
- Strength in translating requirements across research, product, engineering, clinical, and partners like Compliance, Legal, and Responsible AI.
- Ability to sustain strong relationships under pressure.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to influence without authority and align stakeholders with different priorities.
- A collaborative way of working that fosters accountability, rigour, and continuous improvement.
- Experience in health AI, healthcare technology, or other regulated software environments is a plus.
- Advanced degree in a technical field (CS/ML) or Life Sciences/ Medicine is a plus.
