About the Role

Azure Hardware Health Service is looking for a Senior Firmware Engineer to develop and light up innovative hardware solutions that power Azure and enhance its world-class cloud infrastructure. This role involves contributing to the design, implementation, and operation of global scalable cloud services for monitoring hardware health and predicting failures.

Responsibilities

• Develop and operate large scale, low latency, and high throughput systems.
• Debug in data center (onsite and virtual).
• Evaluate AI technologies and architectures for firmware/hardware improvement.
• Specify or implement AI platform improvements like fine-tuning or training custom ML models.
• Work with modern server architectures, including GPU, Memory, or CPU, and methods for failure analysis, debugging, or validation.
• Drive continuous improvement processes based on Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
• Contribute to data analysis and feedback integration for product engineering decisions.
• Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) for monitoring and restoring system functionality within Service Level Agreement (SLA) timeframe.
• Participate in live service operations and support telemetry data integration for system behavior insights.
• Coordinate, integrate, validate, and debug system software comprising different domains within server architecture (e.g., SoC FWs, BIOS, BMC).
• Support the identification of dependencies and design documentation for product features.
• Learn about system interactions and back-end dependencies.
• Contribute to architectural processes under guidance.
• Produce code to test hypotheses for technical solutions.
• Assist with technical validation efforts.
• Collaborate on quality assurance plans and augment test cases.
• Integrate automation into testing.
• Understand the implications of security and compliance in system architecture.
• Ensure compliance with security, privacy, safety, and accessibility standards.
• Leverage developer tools for code creation and debugging.
• Contribute to automation in production and deployment.
• Proactively seek knowledge to improve product availability, reliability, efficiency, and performance at scale.

Requirements

• Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
• Must pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

• USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year (U.S. typical base pay range)
• USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year (San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area)
