About the Role

You’re our first design leader, reporting directly to the founder. You will own how Bob looks, feels, and works, taking a hands-on approach to product design, user research, and shipping alongside engineering. The challenge lies in making a genuinely new product feel obvious, ensuring Bob is powerful yet approachable, autonomous yet controllable, and trustworthy without being dull.

Responsibilities

• Own the product experience from onboarding through daily use.
• Define how users give work to Bob, understand his actions, and intervene when necessary.
• Develop high-trust workflows for approvals, payments, account status, exceptions, and financial controls.
• Create the interaction model for an AI finance employee, not just a chatbot.
• Establish the design system and product quality standards across web, mobile, and conversational interfaces.
• Produce prototypes to validate product ideas before extensive coding.
• Conduct user research to identify and resolve user friction points.
• Shape the visual identity of Bob in collaboration with Growth Marketing.
• Build and lead the design team as the product and workload necessitate.

• Demonstrated passion for the mission, users, and user experience details.
• Possess excellent taste and a commitment to shipping exceptional work.
• Exhibit high initiative, proactively identifying and solving problems.
• World-class hands-on product design skills with a portfolio showcasing simple, coherent products built on complex systems.
• Ability to think systemically while maintaining focus on the human element.
• Capacity to design for happy paths, failure states, edge cases, and clear explanations.
• Strong opinions coupled with openness to feedback, constructive defense of work, and adaptability.
• Excitement for AI, with a nuanced understanding of agency, trust, memory, interruptions, approvals, and human control.
• Experience in fintech, payments, accounting, developer tools, or other high-trust product areas is a significant advantage.
• Strong prototyping and frontend development instincts are highly valued.
