About the Role
The Program Coordinator (PC) partners with youth (ages 12-24) to organize, empower, and mobilize them and their communities to achieve tangible improvements for young people in San Francisco. The PC will train and support youth leaders in developing political consciousness, assessing health and well-being issues, building relationships with supporters, and driving community campaigns for systemic and policy change. This role involves managing campaign logistics, ensuring high-quality and culturally relevant youth leadership opportunities, supporting overall San Francisco campaigns, preparing materials, collaborating with partners, and leading training sessions.
Responsibilities
- Sustain recruitment to ensure diverse youth membership in campaigns.
- Conduct outreach to recruit dynamic and diverse teams of youth and adult leaders.
- Ensure balanced, demographically diverse groups of youth and adults.
- Produce appealing and relevant materials and outreach materials.
- Attend coalition meetings and establish a network.
- Utilize positive youth development and youth-adult partnership principles.
- Represent YLI professionally to networks and the community.
- Develop relationships with local leaders and decision-makers.
- Attend local government meetings and events as needed.
- Conduct one-on-one meetings with youth.
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate and engaging workshops and training using YLI curriculum.
- Supervise and mentor youth leaders to develop and implement youth-led campaigns.
- Plan and arrange meetings and events, including site, agenda, and material preparation.
- Conduct strategic follow-up activities after meetings and events.
- Align program curriculum with innovative aspects of media.
- Manage coordination of media and press coverage for campaigns.
- Employ social media tools for youth base organization.
- Develop the capacity of youth and adults for youth-led community data gathering and analysis.
- Manage coordination of key campaign events.
- Secure support for campaigns from key stakeholders.
- Maintain and update a database of allies, constituents, and opponents.
- Contribute to the development of internship programs.
- Attend City Council and County Board of Supervisor meetings and other civic engagement opportunities.
- Keep accurate, current records of participant demographics.
- Maintain event summaries and monthly records of activities.
- Document the timely completion of contractual goals and objectives.
- Maintain supervision logs and track youth and staff progress.
- Produce regular reports as required by funders.
- Create educational leaflets for recruitment.
- Stay informed about local issues, trends, and opportunities.
- Scan local and state listservs and websites.
- Track local policy related to projects.
- Bring issues and opportunities to the attention of supervisors and share knowledge with staff.
Requirements
- 2-3 years of relevant experience in youth development and/or a B.A.
- Commitment to social justice, public health, and community organizing.
- Experience facilitating youth-driven campaigns or projects.
- Experience with social media and media relations.
- Demonstrated capacity to work with youth and adults from communities of color and low-income communities.
- Significant experience in project management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent follow-through skills; detail-oriented, organized, professional.
- Experience with community-based research or assessment.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multifaceted environment.
- Computer literate in Mac Platform; proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Applications.
- Capacity to be self-motivated.

- Access to a personal vehicle and clean driving record required.
