About the Role

The Design and Construction Project Engineer/ Assistant Project Manager supports the Project Manager on technical, architectural, or engineering projects, primarily focused on office buildouts and upgrading building mechanical operations. This role assists in managing on-site personnel, budgeting, risk assessment, and scheduling to ensure successful project delivery. The ideal candidate is a flexible, adaptable team player with strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage various major and/or minor project and alteration services, ranging from workspace alterations to full oversight of complex construction projects.
  • Act as a back-up to the Project Manager when they are off-site.
  • Perform site inspections.
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings.
  • Conduct pre-building assessments, quality control, implement changes to CAD plans, and plan maintenance activities related to projects.
  • Make suggestions for process improvements to enhance team performance.
  • Gather and analyze data, blueprints, and reports.
  • Determine facility and equipment specifications.
  • Analyze project costs and prepare budgets.
  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Report on project progress to the Project Manager and clients.
  • Design and oversee the implementation of facility expansion, systems, and quality controls.
  • Evaluate operational systems and facility infrastructure to improve efficiencies.
  • Develop process plans and optimize resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, building codes, and health and safety standards.
  • Prepare compliance documentation.
  • Ensure project adherence to internal SOPs and external regulations, including maintaining project documentation.
  • Work independently when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering design or construction.
  • Proficient in reviewing and commenting on Design Intent Drawings and As Built Drawings.
  • Some cost estimating experience.
  • Knowledge of the building process and construction principles.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and building codes.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • May frequently lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
