About the Role

The Program Manager, Awards, manages the day-to-day administration of a portfolio of prestigious international scientific awards recognizing outstanding achievements in research and innovation. This role oversees all aspects of assigned award competitions, combining scientific understanding with strong project management skills to ensure successful execution and communicate awardees' scientific contributions.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Senior Leadership to identify, select, and establish ongoing relationships with international judges, Scientific Advisory Council members, nominators, nominating institutions, and affiliated partners.
  • Review nominations in broad disciplinary areas, evaluating each application according to rigorous quantitative and qualitative metrics.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for judges, facilitating nominee/applicant evaluation and honoree selection by expert juries.
  • Prepare multimedia materials for broad audiences explaining the impact of honorees’ complex scientific research.
  • Conceptualize and develop scientific programming for international and domestic symposia showcasing honoree research.
  • Develop and execute domestic and international award ceremonies and other program events with Senior Leadership, team members, operations, partners, and vendors.
  • Collaborate across Academy departments to identify opportunities for ongoing honoree engagement in Academy initiatives and publications.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the Awards program portfolio and the Academy.
  • Keep abreast of scientific advances relevant to program subject areas.
  • Facilitate judging processes, ensuring the highest ethical standards are applied.
  • Prepare and review multimedia materials explaining complex scientific concepts and impact of award-winning research across various platforms.
  • Develop content and program materials for symposia showcasing honorees and moderate scientific sessions/panel discussions.
  • Identify relevant outlets for awards and event promotion with the marketing team.
  • Track major scientific and career milestones of honorees and promote them and their work.
  • Manage compliance, Sunshine Act, fiscal, and other reporting requirements with Senior Leadership, partners, and sponsors.
  • Continuously evaluate and strive to improve awards processes and implementation.
  • Author grants and sponsorship proposals for program support.
  • Review applications and select individuals for Poster Presentations, Travel Fellowships, and Poster Prizes.
  • Write and review program and post-conference reports for supporters.
  • Provide general support and other duties assigned by Leadership.

Requirements

  • PhD required in an appropriate subject area of life sciences, chemical sciences, or physical sciences & engineering.
  • Professional experience outside of academic research (e.g., outreach, committee service, scientific publishing, non-profit).
  • Post-doctoral or related experience in academia, government, or industrial research, and/or science publishing is a plus.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience, ability, and comfort in dealing with complex scientific information beyond own area of expertise.
  • Experience with grant writing and program management is a plus.
  • Experience in global academic ecosystems outside of the US is a plus.
  • Ability to work with multiple teams across departments and manage multiple parallel projects with tight deadlines.
