About the Role

New York Power Authority (NYPA) is seeking a Project Engineer for their Project Delivery division to join the Infrastructure team, focusing on the development of transmission system control centers and regional maintenance facilities. This role involves managing the end-to-end project lifecycle, including planning, design, construction, and closeout of large and complex projects to support the expansion, revitalization and modernization of NYPA’s infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Manage the project lifecycle from initiation through closeout for complex projects and/or programs, ensuring deliverables comply with schedule.
Independently manage large projects with minimal support.
Manage and implement multiple projects and modifications concurrently.
Oversee and coordinate all in-house and external resources for project activities.
Ensure compliance with licensing, environmental, permitting, safety, code requirements, and stakeholder input, especially during the initiation and design phases.
Develop and manage design documents, specifications, project presentations, Trustee Items, funding requests, budgets, forecasts, and bid proposals, including award recommendations.
Partner with Construction Engineers, Engineering, Customers, or Service Providers to negotiate contract change orders, prepare invoices, coordinate construction sequencing and site outages, and manage field/design changes and quality testing/inspections.
Review and contribute to all project documentation, including drawings, technical specifications, assessment reports, asset and risk registries, budgets, forecasts, invoices, and schedules.
Perform occasional emergency response, including outside of normal business hours.
Support and mentor lower-level Project Engineers.
Provide supervision of maintenance department staff and contractors for assigned work and projects.
Prepare and monitor day-to-day work activities of crafts.
Collaborate with planners in scheduling work activities and oversee employee safety.
Review job packages to ensure completeness and currency prior to work performance.
Review completed work, job packages, and work orders to verify completion and accurate data recording.

Requirements

Proficient in project management of electrical, mechanical, structural, and/or water projects specific to the electric utility, canal/waterways, building systems, distributed energy resource, and/or electric vehicle industries.
Proven success in managing technical and commercial aspects of large projects and programs.
Collaborative and team-oriented with the ability to build relationships with vendors and stakeholders.
Ability to develop project plans, timelines, and work schedules.
Ability to coordinate among customers, contractors, and permitting agencies.
Significant experience with applicable codes, standards, regulations, project budgets, costs, project management software, and NYPA external stakeholders.
Ability to perform engineering calculations and complete specifications, scopes of work, reports, and interdisciplinary design packages.
Approximately 25% travel primarily within NY State.
Willingness to enter confined spaces and climb/scale power system apparatuses.
Ability to travel to vendor facilities worldwide to support construction activities and inspect equipment fabrication and commissioning.
Availability to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, when project demands.
