About the Role
This position supports New York State Canal System capital improvement projects, focusing on waterways infrastructure and heavy civil work. The role involves organizing project teams, developing schedules, determining resource needs, and monitoring project status, cost, timing, and staffing. It requires foundational knowledge in technical project/program activities and management oversight of safety, quality, scope, schedule, and budget.
Responsibilities
- Manage projects and/or programs through all stages of the project lifecycle, ensuring timely deliverables.
- Coordinate with internal and external resources for all project-related activities.
- Ensure compliance with licensing, environmental, permitting, safety, code, and construction requirements.
- Develop and manage design documents, specifications, project presentations, Trustee Items, funding requests, budgets, forecasts, and bid documents.
- Partner with Construction Engineers, Engineering, Customers, or Service Providers to negotiate contract change orders, prepare invoices, and coordinate construction sequencing and site outages.
- Review and contribute to all project documentation, including drawings, technical specifications, assessment reports, asset and risk registries, budgets, forecasts, invoices, and schedules.
- Perform occasional emergency response, including outside of normal business hours.
- Provide supervision of maintenance department staff and contractors for assigned work and projects.
- Prepare and monitor daily work activities of crafts, and work with planners in scheduling work activities.
- Oversee employee safety and review job packages for completeness and currency prior to work.
- Review completed work, job packages, and work orders to verify completion and data recording.
Requirements
- Basic competency in project management of electrical, mechanical, structural, and/or water projects within specific industries.
- Collaborative and team-oriented with the ability to build relationships with vendors and stakeholders.
- Ability to develop project plans, timelines, and work schedules.
- Ability to coordinate among customers, contractors, and permitting agencies.
- Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, regulations, project budgets, costs, and project management software.
- Ability to perform basic engineering calculations.
- Ability to adapt standard specifications, scopes of work, reports, and design packages to specific projects.
- Approximately 25% travel primarily within NY State.
- Willingness to enter confined spaces and climb/scale power system apparatuses.
- Ability to travel to vendor facilities worldwide to support construction activities and inspect equipment fabrication and commissioning.
- Availability to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, when project demands.

Salary/Compensations
