About the Role

A BuffSci Support Teacher provides academic, behavioral, and instructional support to students, collaborating with classroom teachers to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment. This role is crucial for helping students meet academic standards, develop social-emotional skills, and achieve individual learning goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide small-group and one-on-one instructional support in reading, math, science, and other core subject areas.
  • Assist classroom teachers in planning, implementing, and differentiating lessons to meet diverse student needs.
  • Support students with academic interventions and individualized learning plans.
  • Monitor student progress, collect data, and maintain accurate records of academic and behavioral performance.
  • Reinforce positive behavior expectations and implement classroom management strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, and families to support student success.
  • Assist with classroom organization, instructional materials, and educational technology.
  • Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, field trips, and other school activities as needed.
  • Foster a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment that promotes student growth and achievement.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school-wide initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field (or as required by the district).
  • New York State teaching certification (preferred or required, depending on the position).
  • Experience working with elementary or secondary students in a classroom setting.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and build positive relationships with students from diverse backgrounds.
