About the Role

As an Underwriter on the Global Commercial Banking credit team, you will be responsible for underwriting loans and related credit exposure for a portfolio of middle market companies across a broad range of industries with annual revenues ranging from $50 million to $2 billion in the San Francisco / Greater Bay Area market. Working in close partnership with Relationship Management, Debt Capital Markets, Investment Banking and other product teams, you will analyze lending opportunities and perform ongoing portfolio monitoring. You will report to a Senior Credit Manager and work day-to-day with a team of Credit Officers, fellow Underwriters and Credit Analysts.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with credit teammates, relationship management and product teams to develop strategic debt financing solutions
  • Employ credit and accounting knowledge to structure bilateral and syndicated loans aligned with client needs and bank risk parameters
  • Analyze ancillary credit exposure for treasury, rates and foreign exchange products
  • Perform due diligence and dynamic risk assessments of borrowers, industries and transactions
  • Create credit approval packages and own the credit approval process from initiation through final decision
  • Construct detailed financial cash flow and repayment models, including sensitivity analyses
  • Complete enterprise value (discounted cash flow), pricing, returns and risk rating models
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory and internal policies and procedures
  • Exercise approval authority for certain credit actions
  • Present well supported opportunities to credit and risk leadership
  • Partner with internal and external legal partners to complete loan documentation
  • Oversee quarterly monitoring exercises and requirements

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree required
  • 3 to 10 years of Commercial Banking (Middle Market, Large Corporate or Leveraged Finance) underwriting experience
  • Proficiency in accounting principles, financial statement analysis and financial modeling
  • Solid foundation in credit analysis, including evaluation of business risk, industry trends and capital structures
  • Understanding of credit documentation, including term sheets, credit agreements and ancillary agreements (e.g. security, guarantee and intercreditor agreements)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Unwavering attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
  • Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple transactions and responsibilities at a time
  • Experience with the syndicated loan execution process
  • Knowledge of derivative products and documentation (i.e. ISDA agreements)
  • Capability to conduct negotiations with clients
