About the Role

Plans, develops, and oversees food production and services to residents and other consumers in accordance with the organization's resident-centered approach, policies, procedures, and established standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, and manages production and delivery of food services in compliance with government legislation, policies, and Ministry standards, considering available resources.
  • Ensures adequate staffing by hiring, coaching, developing, evaluating, and deploying staff effectively.
  • Visits residents upon admission to assess food preferences and addresses concerns and complaints.
  • Monitors residents' food intake for regular and therapeutic diets and reports compliance and complaints to the dietitian.
  • Interprets residents' needs from individual contact and Resident Council meetings.
  • Plans and adapts menus and recipes in consultation with the Clinical Dietitian.
  • Supervises food production according to sanitation regulations and inspects food temperature and quality.
  • Inspects and maintains food service areas according to sanitary and safety standards.
  • Orders food supplies and maintains an inventory of food items.
  • Monitors kitchen appliances for timely repairs and replacements.
  • Develops internal budgets and implements expenditure and inventory control systems.
  • Attends resident care conferences and Food Services Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Completes charting and quarterly summaries for assigned residents.
  • Conducts production and departmental meetings.
  • Coordinates and plans menus for catering functions.
  • Researches food products and equipment and negotiates contracts.
  • Develops and implements risk management and quality improvement programs for the department.
  • Stays up-to-date with developments and best practices in the field.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a recognized 2-year diploma program in food services supervision or management, or a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or Hotel Management.
  • Membership of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management.
  • Eligible for membership in Ontario Society of Nutrition Management.
  • Completion of a recognized food safety awareness program.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in quantity food production.
  • Supervisory experience in food production.
  • Satisfactory Police Reference Check (with vulnerable sector screen) result.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of Chinese is an asset.
  • Successful applicants must provide a recent satisfactory vulnerable sector police reference check and medical clearance certificate.
