About the Role

We are hiring a Director, IT & Security to own internal technology end-to-end, including systems, access, security, and infrastructure. This role involves managing day-to-day operations, setting strategy, and acting as the company's most senior owner of internal technology, reporting to the Head of Engineering. The ideal candidate will combine hands-on range with systems thinking to manage a complex footprint and ensure security across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Own administration and lifecycle management across core stack: Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack, Linear, Jira, Zendesk, and AI applications.
  • Manage onboarding and offboarding processes, provisioning and revoking access across all systems and entities.
  • Oversee vendor relationships, subscriptions, licensing, and spend, identifying consolidation opportunities.
  • Serve as the escalation point for IT needs, resolving issues and implementing preventative processes and automation.
  • Own identity and access management across multiple entities and tenants.
  • Manage credential and secrets management, including password managers and privileged access.
  • Administer user access to the proprietary platform, working towards role-based access control.
  • Define and drive the target-state architecture for identity and access across the portfolio.
  • Own the security baseline, including identity, MFA, SSO, endpoint protection, access reviews, and vendor risk.
  • Set guardrails for AI usage, including approved tools, data policies, and tenant configuration.
  • Manage the security of the office network and adapt as work evolves.
  • Drive defenses against cyber threats, including incident readiness and response.
  • Ensure corporate domains remain trusted through email authentication and anti-spoofing measures.
  • Apply security and operations lens to domain architecture and process.
  • Establish practical policies and standards, and build security awareness.
  • Own corporate-level file architecture, sharing standards, and governance.
  • Set defaults for easy information retrieval, sharing, and security.
  • Manage backups, business continuity, and disaster recovery for corporate systems.

Requirements

  • 6+ years in IT, systems administration, or IT operations.
  • 3+ years owning IT end-to-end at a growing company.
  • Deep hands-on administration experience across Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack, and associated identity and access management.
  • Working command of security fundamentals across identity, network, endpoints, and access, with prioritization judgment.
  • Sufficient command of DNS and email authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) to maintain domain trust and account security.
  • Fluency with AI tools, using LLMs and AI for scripting, automation, troubleshooting, and learning.
  • Technical range with scripting and automation experience, or the drive to develop these skills.
  • Track record of designing systems and processes, bringing order to complexity.
  • Ability to absorb new surface area as the company grows.
  • Exceptional judgment and communication skills, with the ability to operate independently and explain technical trade-offs clearly.
  • Start-up DNA: bias for action, low ego, willingness to operate with limited resources, and comfort in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing IT across multiple corporate entities, tenants, or a portfolio of companies (Bonus).
  • Experience administering an internal or proprietary application with user access management (Bonus).
  • Experience with MDM and endpoint management (e.g., Intune, Jamf) (Bonus).
  • Exposure to SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar frameworks (Bonus).
