About the Role
The Mason performs all work involving masonry, including brick laying, concrete work, laying marble, plastering, and other related assignments. This is a full-time position located at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital / Weill Cornell Medical Center.
Responsibilities
- Performs all work involving masonry, including brick laying, concrete work inside and outside, laying marble, plastering, and other related assignments.
- Builds stone structures such as walls, abutments, or lays curbstones, walks or special types of masonry such as alberene.
- Shapes stone preparatory to setting, using chisel, hammer, and other shaping tools.
- Spreads mortar over stone and foundation with trowel and sets stone in place by hand or with the aid of a hoist.
- Aligns stone with plumbing and finishes joints between stone with pointing trowel.
- Ensures uniform thickness of joints by spreading mortar along mortar guides.
- Sets heavy equipment in cement when necessary.
- Performs routine and preventive maintenance on all equipment within assigned shop or area.
- Maintains mechanical rooms in the shop.
- Cooperates with team members to resolve maintenance problems within the shop or area in an efficient and timely manner.
- Maintains effective communications with team members, Floor Mechanics, Zone Leaders and System Leaders to ensure prompt response to requests for repairs.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Three to five years prior related masonry experience
- Ability to construct drywall partition and apply tape
- Ability to use masonry power tools
- All roles require on-site presence.
- Employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.
- NYP will not reimburse for travel expenses.
