About the Role

Omni Austin Hotel Downtown is seeking a Production Cook to manage all prep and production for the banquet culinary operation, ensuring adherence to hotel standards. This role involves comprehending menus and preparing high-quality food with excellent presentation.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and refine service standards.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Contribute to daily culinary operations for banquet functions, focusing on efficient food production.
  • Perform banquet cook duties including food prep, production, plating, and equipment cleaning.
  • Complete assigned sidework, including food service prep and cleaning of work areas.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards, preparing for inspections.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in food preparation, refrigeration, and storage areas.
  • Adhere to proper trash disposal procedures.
  • Collaborate with chefs on menu development, creating relevant and creative dishes.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all food and beverage menu items.
  • Stay updated on market trends to create relevant food products and maximize sales.
  • Control food quantities through forecasting to achieve profitability.
  • Ensure adherence to standards and maintain high food quality and presentation.
  • Work carving stations for event buffets as needed.
  • Provide positive guest service and resolve complaints to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Contribute to kitchen sanitation and timing of service, ensuring prompt delivery and quality control.
  • Maintain equipment to a high standard and report issues for maintenance.
  • Maintain furniture, fixtures, and equipment to a high standard, minimizing breakage.
  • Execute instructions on BEOS for events, inspect food stations, and handle special requests.
  • Attend daily stand-up meetings for event information.
  • Assist in developing and prioritizing goals.
  • Foster mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among associates.
  • Maintain a professional, neat, and organized appearance.
  • Respond effectively in emergency or safety situations.
  • Attend required department trainings and meetings.
  • Perform other duties as required by leadership.

Requirements

  • Ability to read recipes and execute meal service.
  • Hands-on food and beverage knowledge.
  • Comprehensive, working knowledge of the hospitality business.
  • Three to five years of relevant cooking experience in a large convention hotel.
  • Proper knife handling skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Highly developed customer service skills.
  • Friendly, approachable demeanor.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Keen eye for detail.
  • Proven ability to engage guests at all levels.
  • Passion for providing warm, engaging, and personalized service.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to handle stressful and busy hotel operations.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional demeanor and composure.
  • Ability to report to work on time and when scheduled.

  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable speaking to guests.
  • Ability to clearly and pleasantly communicate verbally and in writing in English.
  • Computer literacy including payroll, scheduling, time off request systems, and kitchen equipment.
  • Must be able to provide unexpired Serve Safe certification at time of hire.
