About the Role

As a Licensed Optician at AEG, you will play a vital role in our business by providing expert eyewear solutions and exceptional patient care. You will assist patients in selecting eyewear and accessories that fit their prescription, lifestyle, and personal style, ensuring proper frame fit, accurate measurements, and correct lens dispensing.

Responsibilities

• Deliver an extraordinary experience to each patient, providing a complete understanding of customized recommendations for products and services.
• Receive patient handoff from technicians or doctors, establish rapport by asking lifestyle questions to identify visual needs, and recommend appropriate frames, lenses, lens treatments, and specialty products.
• Keep current on company/industry products and procedures, manufacturer rebates, and available lenses and frames.
• Handle patient calls, update patients on order status, and resolve order issues, escalating to management when necessary.
• Assist patients in selecting frames, lens type, and lens treatments based on specific patient needs and facial measurements.
• Educate patients on proper eyeglass and contact lens care, maintenance, warranty coverage, protection plans, and replacement options.
• Maintain a thorough understanding of medical and vision insurance plans, including eligibility, benefits, copays, deductibles, authorizations, and coverage limitations.
• Interpret prescriptions written by Optometrists and Ophthalmologists.
• Accurately interpret and enter prescription information into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and ALE system, ensuring all required documentation is scanned and attached to the patient's chart.
• Follow up on all pending orders, verify orders are within time guidelines, inform patients of delays, and notify them when eyewear is ready.
• Dispense glasses by inspecting the product, checking for proper fit, adjusting as necessary, and requesting feedback.
• Adjust eyewear to ensure visual acuity, proper fit, and patient comfort using various tools.
• Proficiently use tools such as pupilometers, PD sticks, lensometers, pliers, wrenches, and frame warmers.
• Regularly communicate with technicians and managers, providing additional patient information or inquiring about order status.
• Inspect the final product for flaws, clean, and polish lenses.
• Clean and organize frame boards, displays, mirrors, and work bench, maintaining overall cleanliness and visual appeal.
• Understand product issues and analyze problems, thoroughly and accurately answering patient questions regarding insurance, warranty, products, materials, services, pricing, upgrades, and promotions.
• Perform other duties as needed and assigned by manager.

Requirements

• State Licensure
• High School or GED qualification
• Optical dispensing experience
• Experience with HIPAA requirements preferred
• PC skills including MS Office, Windows, and Word Processing
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
• Excellent customer service skills and pleasant demeanor
• Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination

Skills

• Sales experience preferred
