About the Role
The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) is seeking a dedicated Airport Operations Specialist to contribute to the daily operations and success of Syracuse Hancock International Airport. This role requires a candidate with airport experience and a strong sense of initiative, eager to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, 24/7 environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all shift activities, coordinating and monitoring functions to ensure consistent performance with airport policies, procedures, regulations, and standards, prioritizing safety and security.
- Represent Airport Management in all aspects of airport operations.
- Ensure operational efficiency and safety through inspections of the aircraft operating area (AOA) and terminal facilities, complying with FAA, TSA, and airport regulations, and directing corrective actions.
- Coordinate with departments for airport response to critical incidents, irregular operations (IRROPS), and emergencies, providing effective resolutions.
- Monitor and inspect airport activities, properties, and facilities, ensuring airlines, tenants, and concessionaires adhere to airport rules and regulations.
- Coordinate with stakeholders on construction and maintenance projects to minimize operational disruption and monitor construction activity for safety and customer satisfaction.
- Serve as liaison between the Airport and contractors during airfield construction, coordinating and directing maintenance and construction work, ensuring safety and security, and issuing NOTAMs.
- Record and report incidents and accidents on airport property.
- Approve the use of shared-use equipment (gates, ticket counters, jet bridges, baggage carousels) to ensure availability during all operational scenarios.
- Provide direction and instruction for resolving critical incidents, operational activities, security breaches, and rule violations.
- Review and maintain records and operational logs, preparing reports and correspondence.
- Investigate complaints, issues, concerns, and inquiries, providing recommendations for resolution.
- Make recommendations for general policy development for Airport operations.
- Represent the organization internally and externally, supporting the strategic direction, priorities, objectives, vision, mission, and values of the Authority.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of 14 CFR Part 139 and 77, and 49 CFR 1542.
- Strong knowledge of airport operations and activities.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service to all stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of two-way radio communication systems, air-to-ground communication, and using the phonetic alphabet.
- Knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and ability to report safety-related items for risk assessment.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with officials, employees, air carriers, tenants, and the public.
- Ability to assess operational situations, make sound judgments for safety, and follow through to resolution.
- Ability to remain calm and rational during stressful and emergency situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, organize work efficiently, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions in English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to perform essential functions and physical requirements, including standing, sitting, walking for long periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, working in all weather conditions, driving, and using hands, fingers, and eyes.
- Ability to work 24/7 shift work.
- Possession of a valid NYS Driver's License for the class of vehicle operated.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check, obtain and maintain SIDA and Customs & Border Protection clearance, and pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Required to obtain ACE Operations within one year of hire.
