About the Role
The Cook is responsible for providing quality food services working independently.
Responsibilities
- Follows established dietary policies and procedures.
- Keeps kitchen clean in compliance with regulations.
- Inspects food inventory on a regular basis and disposes of out-of-date items.
- Prepares meals according to room service orders.
- Delivers meals within the policy timeframe.
- Completes paperwork related to meals served.
- Washes dishes and cleans up after meal preparation.
- Maintains daily, weekly & monthly cleaning logs.
- Maintains temperature logs on refrigerator and dishwasher.
- Maintains appropriate inventories of food and beverages.
- Places orders for groceries and supplies.
- Completes purchase orders and required paperwork.
- Ensures reports are completed and submitted to regulatory and community agencies.
- Provides training and orientation to new kitchen staff in established kitchen procedures & protocols.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Familiarity with office software, such as Microsoft office products.
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in the English language.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
- One year food service experience, preferably in a medical or other institutional setting.
- Graduate of State Health Department Food Service Manager Certificate Program or other training program approved by management.
- Current City of Austin Food Service Manager Certificate required.
