About the Role
Under the direction of the Program Director, the Student Advisor will provide support in college and career readiness, academic progress monitoring, day-to-day student issues, and social-emotional and personal development. Student Advisors will act as the first point of contact for students, parents, and staff, collaborating with partner school faculty to ensure student academic success.
Responsibilities
- Act as a primary point of contact for a caseload of approximately 60-70 students.
- Conduct intake interviews with students and family members.
- Perform daily outreach regarding attendance, academics, and social-emotional well-being via phone, remotely, or home visits.
- Consult with guidance counselors regarding student credit accumulation, graduation dates, and post-secondary plans.
- Consult with teachers and provide feedback to students on academic performance.
- Refer students to academic and support services as needed.
- Attend administrative meetings, program trainings, and staff development sessions, which may require virtual attendance.
- Meet with caseload students individually or in groups to assist with academic, career, and personal goals, utilizing remote platforms or socially distanced methods.
- Conduct workshops, social-emotional groups, interest groups, or other groups for the caseload.
- Educate students about colleges, the admissions process, FAFSA, trends, procedures, and testing, providing realistic advice.
- Guide students through employment opportunities.
- Conduct informal counseling sessions to support students' social-emotional development.
- Document all student interactions using Salesforce, Google Suite, and other required data systems.
- Participate in civic and community building efforts and activities as assigned by East Side House Community Development.
- Participate in and help arrange field trips, special events, and extracurricular activities.
- Provide other program support functions as required.
- Maintain flexible hours and workdays, with some overnight trips required.
- Work some evenings, weekends, and remotely.
- Adhere to DOE shutdown protocols as re-issued by ESH.
Requirements
- B.A./B.S.W. degree required.
- At least two years of youth services experience.
- Excellent verbal, analytical, written, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and multi-task.
- Strong interpersonal skills and time management skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of community service/development.
- Minimum intermediate knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Teams), Google Suite, Zoom, and other applications.
- Must obtain required clearances from the Department of Education (DOE).
- Must be fully vaccinated or able to obtain vaccination before the start date.
