About the Role
As the EMD Application Engineering Director, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. You will lead the Global Electrical Markets Division Application Engineering organization, defining and executing the global application engineering strategy aligned with business and technology roadmaps. You will partner with R&D, product management, marketing, sales, and operations to identify customer needs and convert them into scalable technical solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Global Electrical Markets Division Application Engineering organization.
- Define and execute the global application engineering strategy aligned with business and technology roadmaps.
- Partner with R&D, product management, marketing, sales, and operations to identify customer needs and convert them into scalable technical solutions.
- Monitor industry trends, competitive technologies, and emerging laboratory application needs to inform innovation priorities.
- Oversee application development, product validation support, demo protocols, and technical performance optimization.
- Establish global processes, tools, and best practices for application engineering across regions and teams.
- Develop key customer relationships.
- Support new product introduction by ensuring application readiness, technical documentation, and customer use-case validation.
- Build and lead a high-performing global team, including hiring, coaching, succession planning, and capability development.
- Corporate policies, procedures and security standards are complied with while performing assigned duties.
- Contribute to a strong Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) culture by following safety policies, identifying hazards, and engaging in continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher completed and verified prior to start from an accredited institution.
- Ten (10) years of experience in application engineering, laboratory technology, technical service, product development, or related leadership roles.
- Master`s degree and /or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Engineering, or Material Science, from an accredited institution.
- Experience leading global or multi-regional technical teams.
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional programs and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Able to identify and gather customer insights and technology/product opportunities.
- Strong business acumen, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership capabilities.
- Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
- All US-based 3M full time employees will need to sign an employee agreement as a condition of employment with 3M.
- Employees that are Job Grade 7 or equivalent and above may also have obligations to not compete against 3M or solicit its employees or customers, both during their employment, and for a period after they leave 3M.
