About the Role

As a Software Engineer on the Chewy Plus Team, you will craft, enhance, or create new functionalities for pet parents. You will experience working with microservice-based backends, batch jobs, and UIs to solve challenging customer and business problems, directly impacting millions of customers.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement solutions using varied technologies focusing on scalability, latency, and resiliency.
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to translate product requirements into well-defined technical solutions and deliver high-quality features.
  • Write high-quality, maintainable code, develop clear technical designs, and participate in code and design reviews.
  • Contribute to the evolution of service architecture, data architecture, DevOps practices, infrastructure as code, deployment pipelines, and public cloud services.
  • Communicate development progress, risks, and technical trade-offs to stakeholders.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers.
  • Actively participate in Agile ceremonies including backlog grooming, sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to monitor production systems and troubleshoot incidents.
  • Position may require travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science (or a related field) or equivalent work experience.
  • 4+ years of experience with Java and with related frameworks - Spring Webflux and/or Spring Boot.
  • 4+ years of experience building, deploying, testing APIs and micro services in a distributed systems environment.
  • 2+ years of experience developing features using PostgreSQL or other SQL-based databases.
  • 2+ years of experience in system design.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or similar tool.
  • Experience with Playwright or similar automation testing tools.
  • Experience with AWS cloud and terraform.
  • Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience with high-performing and scalable systems.
  • Ability to think independently and break down product requirements into well-defined tasks.
  • Experience in monitoring the production environment, troubleshooting, triaging, and addressing production issues.
  • Hands-on experience developing user interfaces using React.js, including component design, state management, TypeScript and integration with RESTful APIs.
  • Experience in e-commerce.

Salary/Compensations

  • The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.
