About the Role
Medsender's AI Medical Assistant® automates healthcare document processing, allowing clinicians to focus on patient care. We are seeking an engineer to help set the engineering bar for our fast-paced, high-ownership team tackling high-impact problems at the intersection of AI, healthcare data, and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Own critical systems end-to-end, from design to production, across AI-powered intake, referral, and document automation pipelines.
- Architect for scale and correctness in a regulated environment, focusing on resilient workflows, idempotent jobs, auditability, and strong observability.
- Ship AI features responsibly by integrating and evaluating LLMs, optimizing performance, and measuring real-world impact.
- Integrate with EHRs/EMRs and third-party systems, designing stable APIs and event-driven services.
- Raise the engineering bar by mentoring engineers, leading design reviews, improving the SDLC, and championing reliability.
- Partner with product and customers to translate ambiguous workflows into scalable automation.
Requirements
- 7+ years building production systems or equivalent impact.
- Track record of leading complex projects across teams.
- Strong backend fundamentals including service design, data modeling, transactions, background processing, performance profiling, and observability.
- Experience integrating AI models, prompt/RAG patterns, evaluation frameworks, and safety/guardrails.
- Ability to write crisp design docs, slice scope intelligently, and iterate with tight feedback loops.
- Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
- Experience with PHI or in regulated environments is a plus.
