About the Role
The Parts Counter Advisor, Back Counter supports the dealership’s service department by providing timely, accurate, and efficient parts support to technicians and internal staff. This role ensures the correct OEM parts are identified, sourced, and delivered to the shop to keep repair orders moving efficiently. The Back Counter Advisor plays a key role in maintaining workflow, minimizing technician downtime, and supporting overall service department productivity.
Responsibilities
- Assist technicians and internal service staff with parts identification, pricing, and availability.
- Accurately source OEM parts using electronic catalog systems and VIN lookup tools.
- Process internal parts requests and ensure timely delivery of parts to the shop.
- Maintain organized records of parts used on repair orders and ensure proper billing.
- Communicate effectively with the service team regarding backorders, delays, or alternative solutions.
- Support inventory accuracy through stocking, bin management, and cycle counts.
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized parts department work area.
- Collaborate with the parts manager and service manager to support workflow and efficiency.
- Provide excellent internal customer service to help achieve service department KPIs.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by leadership.
Requirements
- Previous experience in automotive parts, dealership back counter operations, or technician support preferred.
- Strong understanding of automotive systems, OEM parts, and electronic parts catalog software.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to support a fast-paced service environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in parts sourcing and record keeping.
- Proficiency with dealership management systems (DMS) and basic computer applications.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
