About the Role

The Medical Assistant works under the guidance of the Center Manager and Provider(s) to greet patients, relay telephone messages, assist with procedures, and perform various clinical responsibilities using sterile and aseptic techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients in waiting area, exam room, and/or procedure room.
  • Prepares patients for care, ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Anticipates and supports the needs and preferences of the Provider(s) and patients by managing daily patient flow and acting as a liaison.
  • Monitors clinical messages by effectively communicating information to the Provider(s) and relaying responses back to patients.
  • Organizes, cleans, and prepares exam, procedure, and recovery rooms.
  • Completes documentation for patient charts by obtaining diagnostic studies, taking and recording patients' vitals, reviewing current medications and allergies, and recording Provider(s) orders and prescriptions.
  • Provides patients with discharge/follow-up instructions, educational brochures, and dietary requirements.
  • Assists with follow-up programs by performing pre/post procedure patient calls.
  • Follows safety and infection control procedures, maintaining individual protective protocols, disposable sterile equipment, and properly disposing of contaminated waste.
  • Maintains confidentiality and privacy regulations under HIPAA guidelines.
  • Assesses medical and emergency equipment daily and reports any malfunctioning to the Center Manager.
  • Assists with administrative duties when not performing patient care and all clinical duties are completed.
  • Adheres to and upholds all applicable federal and state compliance regulations, the NSPC Code of Conduct, the NSPC Employee Handbook, compliance policies and procedures, and applicable healthcare fraud, waste and abuse laws.
  • Understands, complies with, and enforces all NSPC policies, procedures, codes of conduct, and OSHA and HIPAA privacy rules.
  • Completes annual compliance training.
  • Adheres to the overall compliance program.
  • Reports issues.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting program preferred OR a minimum of two (2) years of clinical Medical Assistant experience, preferably in a specialty practice.
  • At least one year of directly related experience, preferably in a group practice setting.
  • Ability to take vital signs.
  • General knowledge of healthcare and medical terminology.
  • Working knowledge of insurance criteria pertaining to patient lab tests, X-rays, and other procedures.
  • Excellent patient care skills and awareness of the legal implications of work and words in healthcare.
  • General knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA regulations.
  • Excellent organizational/multi-tasking skills with acute attention to details.
  • Aptitude to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Ability to learn and use new software technologies for electronic patient medical records and practice management scheduling systems.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle with a valid driver's license, as needed.

About the Company

  • Located in an ethical, fast-paced, clinical office environment with a moderate noise level.
  • Periodic use of standard office equipment (computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, etc.).
  • Regular use of clinical equipment (autoclaves, c-arms, crash carts, intravenous therapy materials, etc.).
  • Close and regular interactions with patients occur, which may result in exposure to blood borne pathogens and/or other diseases/infections.
  • Extensive and regular periods of sitting, standing, bending, walking, seeing, talking, and listening.
  • A full range of body motion including complete manual and finger dexterity, as well as effective hand-eye coordination.
  • Adequate visual acuity including ability to read information.
  • An occasional requirement to reach with hands/arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • An occasional requirement to push, pull, lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
