About the Role
The Director of Veterans Affairs serves as the University’s principal officer for all matters relating to veteran and military-connected students. This role acts as the primary liaison to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the State Approving Agency, providing guidance to senior leadership to ensure regulatory compliance and supporting the university's broader efforts to serve veteran students.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain relationships with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, State Approving Agency, Department of Defense, and military service branches.
- Represent the university's interests before federal and state agencies and veteran-aligned organizations.
- Advise senior leadership on VA regulatory requirements, including GI Bill administration, Yellow Ribbon Program, and the 85/15 rule.
- Guide the Office for Student Financial Services to ensure accurate and timely certification of enrollment.
- Monitor changes in federal and state law and VA policy to ensure institutional compliance.
- Coordinate responses to VA compliance surveys, audits, and program approval actions.
- Serve as an advocate for veteran and military-connected students within the university community.
- Coordinate with academic and administrative units to deliver services such as benefits counseling and transition support.
- Maintain and report on veteran student enrollment, persistence, completion, and employment outcomes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in government relations, veterans services, higher education administration, or military education benefits administration.
- Direct experience working with the VA or other government agencies.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of VA education benefit programs and the federal and state regulatory framework.
- Experience advising senior leadership on regulatory or compliance matters.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively across academic and administrative units.
