About the Role

The Recreation Therapist will work with an interprofessional team to promote a holistic leisure lifestyle by addressing clients' social, physical, spiritual, emotional, and cognitive needs. Responsibilities include developing, planning, facilitating, scheduling, organizing, and implementing therapeutic recreation programs through assessments, individualized plans, documentation, skill instruction, and program evaluation. The role also involves contributing to program development, research, and educational activities, with flexibility required for evening and weekend work.

Responsibilities

Develop, design, implement, schedule, lead, and evaluate individualized and group therapeutic recreational/leisure/life skills programs and special events.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including Allied and medical staff, to coordinate client care interventions with recreation therapy activities.
Record client assessment, progress, and discharge status according to department and Youthdale policy.
Formulate clinical impressions and recommendations for treatment based on assessment data analysis.
Monitor client behavior and condition during programs, reporting significant changes.
Maintain program and client records in accordance with Youthdale policy.
Work cooperatively with other programs and departments to meet client needs.
Ensure standards of professional practice with respective regulatory bodies are met.
Represent Youthdale professionally during external community meetings.
Participate in safety, risk management, and quality improvement activities.
Conduct program evaluation and applied research to ensure safe and effective recreational therapy services.
Maintain and adhere to all relevant legislation, organizational and occupational health and safety policies and procedures, and the agency's mission, vision, and philosophy.
Comprehend and implement CYFSA and ministry licensing requirements related to Child and Youth Services.

Requirements

Minimum of 1-2 years of direct experience working with inpatients.
Experience with crisis management and treatment of acute mental health/addictions.
Ability to assess, plan, and implement a personalized approach to service delivery within the guidelines of the Therapeutic Recreation Service Model.
Ability to work all shifts, including weekends, and provide multi-site coverage as required.
Ability to utilize Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
