About the Role

FanDuel is seeking a mid-level full stack software engineer to independently design, develop, and test software applications. The role requires a solid understanding of programming languages and development methodologies, with active collaboration with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into functional code, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to code reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Independently design, implement, and deliver high-quality features and code within your team, ensuring successful outcomes for assigned tasks.
  • Translate business requirements into technical solutions and actively contribute to team goals, tracking progress and flagging roadblocks early.
  • Collaborate with seniors to break down large initiatives and proactively debug complex issues across the stack.
  • Navigate high levels of ambiguity independently, propose robust solutions, and evaluate technical trade-offs before implementation.
  • Work effectively with cross-functional partners and communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Write maintainable, well-tested code and maintain comprehensive documentation for features and system designs.
  • Perform code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to best practices.
  • Make informed decisions that consider long-term scalability, maintenance, and system reliability.
  • Take full ownership of assigned components while proactively learning new technologies and methodologies to improve the codebase.
  • Monitor systems, respond to incidents, and help maintain high standards through knowledge sharing and supporting newer team members as part of an on-call rotation.
  • Integrate AI coding assistants and agentic tools into their daily workflow as a default, not an afterthought.
  • Use AI to accelerate the full lifecycle — from drafting specs and generating scaffolding to writing tests, reviewing diffs, and producing documentation.
  • Exercise strong engineering judgment when working with AI output: validate, test, and review AI-generated code rather than accepting it blindly.
  • Help define and improve team standards for responsible, effective AI-assisted development.

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science or related field with 3+ years of experience preferred.
  • Experience developing backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Solid foundation in JavaScript, ReactJS, HTML5, CSS3, TypeScript, and React Native.
  • Experience building responsive web and mobile applications with a focus on cross-browser compatibility.
  • Understanding of performance optimization techniques (e.g., lazy loading, code minification).
  • Familiarity working with CI/CD pipelines and testing frameworks, preferably Jest.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases, concurrency, and messaging queues (e.g., Kafka).
  • Experience implementing and managing API services using GraphQL and Cosmo for data federation.
  • Familiarity with software design patterns for reliable and maintainable code.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS.
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Experience with Gradle, Helm, Terraform, and BuildKite.
  • Demonstrated experience using AI development tools (e.g., AI coding assistants, agentic IDEs, LLM-based testing or review tools) in real projects.
  • A test-first mindset and commitment to code quality, maintainability, and observability.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across functions.
