About the Role
The Production Material Handler is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of raw materials, packaging, and finished goods within the production area, adhering to General Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements. This role reports to the Production Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Pick and stage raw materials and packaging needed for production.
- Weigh materials and packaging, and record weights on tags and labels.
- Create requisitions for packaging, ingredients, and pallets/totes as per production schedule and on demand.
- Receive and store raw ingredients and packaging into proper locations.
- Use an RF scanner to move ingredients and packaging in the electronic system.
- Put materials away into appropriate locations.
- Record timing and temperature for chilled or frozen ingredients.
- Ensure all paperwork and inventory documentation is completed.
- Perform general housekeeping for production lines to ensure safe, efficient, and clean maintenance of work areas.
- Perform basic maintenance checks on forklift equipment.
- Accurately and timely report all quality issues.
- Perform other tasks as required.
- Follow all proper maintenance, sanitation, and Health & Safety protocols at all times.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and general housekeeping.
Requirements
- 1 year of warehouse or equivalent experience required.
- Forklift license required (Reach Truck, and Electric Pallet).
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Able to perform duties in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to multi-task, prioritize, and problem-solve.
- Able to operate material handling equipment in a safe manner, consistent with established procedures.
- Able to maintain forklift batteries, conduct daily circle checks, and complete required documentation.
- Good knowledge of inventory control and order picking.
- Able to count, sort, code, and record information as required for inventory control.
- Good knowledge of GMPs, SOPs, Health & Safety procedures, including OH&S Act & WHMIS.
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a team.
- Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors as a Quality Focused, Service Oriented Team Player.
- Sufficient physical strength and dexterity to perform required tasks.
- Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
- Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds or more with assistance may be required.
- Willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required.
- Willing to work outside and/or in adverse temperatures (extreme heat, cold, humidity).
- Willing to be exposed to vibrations, chemicals, fumes, and food allergens.
- Willing to work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet.
