About the Role

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Special Needs Trust Officer (Senior Fiduciary Specialist) in Wells Fargo Trust as part of Wealth and Investment Management. This role administers Special Needs Trusts for beneficiaries with varying degrees of disability and/or incapacity, ensuring compliance with trust provisions, bank policies, and legal requirements. You will work with families, attorneys, caseworkers, and other professionals to determine beneficiary needs, manage distributions, and prevent disqualification from government benefit programs.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Special Needs Trusts for beneficiaries with varying degrees of disability and/or incapacity.
  • Work with trust partners, attorneys, caseworkers, and other professionals to ensure compliance with trust provisions, bank policies, and legal requirements.
  • Determine beneficiary needs and appropriate distributions from trusts in collaboration with families and field trust officers.
  • Administer trusts to prevent disqualification from SSI/Medicaid and other means-tested government benefit programs.
  • Develop and offer solutions to problems facing disabled individuals and their families by working with attorneys, tax professionals, social workers, case managers, and health care professionals.
  • Identify and resolve risk issues on Special Needs Trust accounts.
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals.
  • Interact with internal and external customers.
  • Exercise independent judgment while developing knowledge of function, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Engage clients, advisors, and internal partners to deliver a high-touch client experience within a strong risk management framework.
  • Independently resolve moderately complex issues leveraging knowledge of internal policies and procedures.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement and control development.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert on fiduciary administration for moderately complex accounts.
  • Provide guidance on interpreting governing instruments, applying fiduciary principles, and ensuring compliance with prudent investing standards.
  • Serve as a peer mentor to actively train and mentor lower-level staff.
  • Participate in marketing and development initiatives.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of Fiduciary Products experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience and education.

Skills

  • Experience administering Special Needs Trusts
  • Knowledge of Medicaid/Medicare and Social Security benefit programs
  • Experience interacting or communicating with trust beneficiaries, and/or with families of disabled individuals
  • Knowledge and understanding of estate, trust, or fiduciary administration
  • Ability to read and interpret legal documents
  • Ability to review trust agreement documents and ensure bank compliance
  • High level of organizational skills, including time and priority management
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and build strong working relationships across business channels and at all levels of management.
