About the Role
The Lead Electrical CAD Engineer is responsible for developing, releasing, and sustaining electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring, and power distribution designs for mission-critical power and cooling products. This role ensures electrical design integrity across all product phases, adhering to safety standards, regulations, and customer requirements. It requires expertise in electrical CAD tools, industrial power and control systems, and collaboration with mechanical and PLM teams.
Responsibilities
- Independently develop and maintain electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring designs for complex industrial systems using EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical and/or Edge Electrical.
- Design and document power distribution, protection, grounding, and control circuits supporting power distribution and cooling platforms.
- Ensure electrical designs meet functional performance, safety, reliability and serviceability requirements across operating conditions.
- Resolve electrical packaging and integration challenges in coordination with mechanical layouts, thermal constraints and enclosure architectures.
- Execute configuration controlled electrical designs supporting multiple product variants, options and regional variations.
- Maintain stability and traceability of electrical designs as engineering changes are introduced.
- Implement engineering changes (ECR/ECNs) efficiently while preserving compliance, backward compatibility and production continuity.
- Ensure accurate synchronization between schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, BOMs and PLM system records throughout the product lifecycle.
- Design electrical systems that are compliant with applicable IEC, UL and regional standards, as well as customer specific specifications.
- Apply sound engineering judgment to ensure electrical safety, fault protection, arc mitigation, grounding and clearance/creepage requirements.
- Support internal and external compliance activities by providing accurate documentation and responding to design related findings.
- Develop detailed panel layouts including component placement, wire routing and labeling aligned with mechanical constraints and thermal considerations.
- Ensure wiring designs are manufacturable, accessible and service-friendly, with clear documentation for production.
- Support prototype builds, production ramp up and manufacturing issue resolution through direct design updates and clarifications.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical engineering to ensure electrical mechanical fit, clearance, airflow and thermal compatibility.
- Partner with manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and production teams to address build issues, component substitutions and all feedback.
- Participate in technical design reviews and release readiness activities as a senior technical contributor.
- Contribute through execution to the continuous improvement of electrical CAD practices, documentation clarity and configuration discipline.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- 8+ years of hands-on electrical CAD design experience with industrial or infrastructure class equipment.
- Demonstrated experience designing power distribution and control systems for complex, multi-variant products.
- Working knowledge of IEC, UL, and regional electrical compliance requirements.
- Ability to independently execute and own complex electrical designs with minimal oversight.
- Electrical design experience for power and cooling systems, switchgear, transformers, busway, PDCs, CDUs, chillers, or thermally intensive infrastructure.
- Experience with switchgear, control panels and industrial power systems.
- Proven background in panel layout, wire routing and electrical mechanical integration.
- Familiarity with PLM systems and formal product release and change control processes.
- Experience supporting both NPI and sustaining engineering in production environments.
