About the Role

Compassionately facilitates funeral arrangement discussions, presides over services, and ensures compliance with mortuary, health, and vital statistics regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Receives or initiates contact with deceased next of kin, obtains information, and schedules arrangement appointments.
  • Performs removals or transfers of the deceased while adhering to company standards.
  • Cares for the deceased in a respectful manner and updates removal status in proprietary software.
  • Facilitates Arrangement Conferences, assessing needs, summarizing desired outcomes, and discussing available services and merchandise.
  • Transitions Arrangement Conferences to Funeral Services Counselor/Advisor or performs their responsibilities if needed.
  • Reviews and authorizes merchandise and service contract revisions.
  • Confirms authorization to proceed with service arrangements.
  • Serves as Master of Ceremonies for visitation, funeral, or graveside services.
  • Visually inspects deceased and services arrangements against contractual agreements and family expectations, initiating corrective actions as needed.
  • Interacts with family and guests to fulfill death care requests and obtains leads for pre-need services.
  • Performs event planning responsibilities including resource planning and ordering of music, flowers, or catering.
  • Produces memorial products such as scanning photos, ordering memorabilia, creating electronic presentations, writing obituaries, and creating online memorials.
  • Prepares and cleans event rooms, including setup and breakdown of chairs, tables, and décor.
  • May perform attendant duties such as parking lot attendant, driver, usher, pallbearer, or courier.
  • Represents and promotes the location or market at community or charity events.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Takes initiative to discuss assignments, expectations, priorities, and deadlines with manager.
  • Notifies manager of light workload and volunteers for additional work.
  • Adjusts effectively to new work structures, processes, requirements, or cultures.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited school or college of mortuary science.
  • Current Funeral Director license within the practicing state.
  • Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Industry experience is preferred.
  • Ability to push and pull up to 150 pounds on flat and inclined flooring or ramps.
