About the Role

We are seeking Linux Engineers to maintain the critical infrastructure underlying Jane Street's technology. This broad role involves working with on-prem and cloud infrastructure, major technology pillars, and various layers of the stack from physical hardware to workload orchestration. You will have the opportunity to work deeply in specific areas, such as building in-house tools, integrating mainstream technologies, acting as a Linux expert, automating processes, and resolving production issues.

Responsibilities

• Building in-house tools and systems that make up our platform.
• Integrating mainstream (often open-source) technologies.
• Acting as a firm's Linux expert and teaching specialist skills like systems debugging.
• Automating work to increase speed and reliability.
• Diagnosing and resolving production issues in real time.
• Carrying out scheduled changes to the platform, including upgrades, migrations, capacity changes, and rollouts.

Requirements

• Knowledgeable about operating system fundamentals, computer architecture, and systems programming concepts.
• Able to understand network protocols at a basic level.
• Comfortable at the command line of a Linux machine.
• Fluent in basic Linux introspection and troubleshooting (system health, processes, logs).
• Solves problems by writing code (in any language) and cares about robust software engineering.
• Intellectually curious, collaborative, humble, and eager to learn.
• A strong communicator.
