About the Role

You'll be leading a team within App Platform, a talented group of iOS and Android engineers who build and evolve the foundations that power Trainline's award-winning apps. The team provides the shared capabilities, tooling, frameworks, and engineering practices that help product teams build, evolve, and deliver exceptional customer experiences at scale, moving faster while maintaining high standards of quality, performance, and reliability. This role plays a crucial role in championing the unique needs of mobile engineering, shaping strategy, advocating for investment, and driving improvements to empower app teams to innovate and delight customers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage your team, supporting their career development through coaching and performance management.
  • Engage in technical deliverables, including features, application monitoring, and bug fixing.
  • Manage hiring, interviews, and onboarding of new team members.
  • Identify and clear process bottlenecks and roadblocks to team success.
  • Collaborate with Product and Leadership to select high-value projects and maintain team focus.
  • Own the team’s technical roadmap and negotiate with Product for prioritization.
  • Manage project scope with Product, ensure technical deliverables are met, and communicate progress to stakeholders.
  • Identify areas for improvement, such as strategic tech debt and advanced technologies.

Requirements

  • Proven line management experience delivering complex projects successfully.
  • Background in Mobile App development, preferably in the Platform or Developer Experience space.
  • Experience growing engineering teams.
  • Ability to inspire direct reports and build strong trust-based relationships.
  • Thrive in a diverse, open, and collaborative environment.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Proactive, focused, supportive, honest, and a team player.
